For residents wishing to request a disabled parking bay outside of their property, there are two different types of application depending on whether or not the property lies within an area with existing formal parking regulations in place, such as a residents parking permit scheme, or a location with no formal restrictions in place.
Standard requirements for allowing a disabled space are:
- Minimum road width of 6.5m is desirable to ensure the safe passage of vehicles using the carriageway.
- The carriageway forms part of the public highway and is maintained by Warwickshire County Council.
- National guidance requires a bay to be 6.6m in length. The highway authority will consult with neighbouring properties during the application process.
For residents where there are currently no parking restrictions in place
An advisory disabled parking bay is unofficial and non-enforceable. Any disabled badge holder may use the bay and it is not limited to the resident who made the application. All successful residents must notify us when the parking bay is no longer required.
Standard procedures
Once your application has been received it will be processed as follows:
- Confirmation of your blue badge status
- A visit by an engineer to assess the location
- Consultation with your immediate neighbours
Reasons for refusal
- If adequate off-street parking facilities are available
- If there is an existing residents parking scheme
- Any other waiting restrictions in place
- If there is a highway safety implication, for example, restrictions to emergency services through lack of road width or proximity to a junction

For residents where there are currently parking restrictions in place
A formal disabled parking bay is enforceable under a Traffic Regulation Order. Any disabled badge holder may use the bay and it is not limited to the resident who made the application. All successful residents must notify us when the parking bay is no longer required.
Standard procedure
Once your application has been received it will be processed as follows:
- Confirmation of your blue badge status
- A visit by an engineer to assess the location
- Inclusion in the consultation for the next variation of the Traffic Regulation Order
The process may take a number of months due to the legal work involved.
Reasons for refusal
- If adequate off-street parking facilities are available
- Any other waiting restrictions in place
- If there is a highway safety implication, for example, restrictions to emergency services through lack of road width or proximity to a junction
