Employers are responsible for training workers to have the skills and knowledge to do their jobs or to progress into new roles.
If you wish to undertake training or qualifications not supported by your employer you will need to find and fund this activity. Your local further education college will have a prospectus of vocational courses it offers so that’s a good place to start your search. You can search the internet for the type of training or qualification you’re interested in. The results will include options to learn or train online.
The National Careers Service provides information, advice and guidance to help adults make decisions on learning, training and work.
- Small and medium-sized employers may be able to access free local training for workers from the Skills Support for the Workforce programme. You may wish to let your employer know about this.
