Choosing childcare
The information on the main choosing childcare pages is applicable to all families. However, there will be extra considerations for you to bear in mind when you are choosing suitable childcare provision for a child with additional needs.
It is worth giving extra thought to the type of childcare you want, for example, do you want your child to attend a nursery or pre-school so that he or she can benefit from the mixed setting and socialisation opportunities, or would your child benefit more in a quiet setting, perhaps with a childminder or cared for in your own home?
All the childcare provision on our childcare search is Ofsted registered so have all met the minimum requirements for care and education. In addition, some of our providers have achieved our Warwickshire Inclusion Kitemarking Award. Whilst all early years settings must make reasonable adjustments to ensure they are offering inclusive provision, this award recognises high quality SEND provision. More information is provided in the WIncKS section.
The childcare search facility allows you to search for suitable provision in your area. Once you have identified provision that you feel might be suitable you will need to contact the provider to check if they have spaces and discuss your child’s needs with them.
If you are struggling to find suitable provision, your health visitor, or the Family Information Service can support you, or you can contact the IDS SEND Childcare Co-ordinator.
