These must be treated as Hazardous waste and not placed in your rubbish bin. The correct way to dispose of a fire extinguisher is; return to the supplier if possible.
Some companies will recondition units or take them in exchange for a new unit purchased; pressurised (undischarged) units can be taken to these recycling centres:
There is a minimum charge of £6.00 (depending on size – larger units may be more). Completely empty units (totally discharged prior to arrival with no tops fitted or valves completely removed) can be accepted free of charge at the above locations – please see site staff on arrival. Contact a waste collection company who are licensed to take hazardous waste.
