Preparing for a meeting
Before a meeting, you may want to prepare by gathering examples of your child or young person’s progress and/or difficulties. This may be from:
- School, college or home work
- School or college reports
- Any professional reports
- Behaviour or mood at home
- Concentration, physical skills, social relationships
- Details of any other support your child or young person may have had at a previous setting
- A profile from a Dimensions report you have completed for your child or young person
It helps to write down any questions, for example:
- Has the educational setting experienced any or some of these difficulties?
- Have any assessments been carried out to find out more?
- How do they measure a child or young person’s progress?
- Is your child or young person making the progress they would expect?
- Is your child or young person receiving any extra help currently?
- How can we work together?
- What can I do as a parent at home to help my child or young person?
It is a good idea to familiarise yourself with the setting’s SEND policy and SEN information report. These will be displayed on their website.
All mainstream educational settings must:
- Make reasonable adjustments for SEND
- Prevent discrimination and promote equality
- Support pupils with medical conditions
