Under Section 100 of the Children and Families Act 2014, schools, academies and alternative educational providers ‘must make arrangements for supporting pupils with medical conditions’, enabling pupils to take part in the same opportunities as any other pupil. Schools must have a written policy regarding how they support pupils with medical conditions.
Schools will agree an individual healthcare plan with you. This will set out how your child’s health needs will be met, when and by whom, and whether any staff training is needed.
Healthcare plans should be kept confidential, but your child's school will need to share the information with anyone who might need to deal with an emergency involving your child, for example, midday supervisors who monitor the dining hall and playground at lunchtime, supply staff who may be covering your child’s lessons.
