The following pages are to help you and your child with the move to their new secondary school. This can be a big step for your child and may be an anxious time for a lot of you.

For your child, they will be moving from being the oldest in their primary school to the youngest and may be one of the smallest in their secondary school. They may be moving with friends but it could be that they may not know anyone in their new school. For all children, there will be a lot to take in and to learn, particularly in the first few weeks. They will need to adjust to having different teachers for different subjects, moving between different classrooms, their lunch arrangements may be different. Although there are lots of changes ahead there are ways to help and support your child as they settle into year 7 or at other times where they may change school.

You may not know what your child is learning in any great detail but being interested is the first and most important step.
