The Community Provision of Conversational English Language Grant Fund launches on Monday 12 December at 9am. The deadline for applications is Sunday 15 January 2023 at 5pm.
All applications should aim to increase and/or sustain the capacity of volunteer English language provision, across Warwickshire for any newly arrived communities, including refugees, asylum seekers and migrants, focusing on the following priorities:
- Improve English language skills
- Support VCS organisations to continue and/or expand their provision of conversational English classes for speakers of other languages
- Enable learners to access some language provision throughout academic year before they are able to enrol on the mainstream ESOL provision, which is usually in September or January
- Provide classes that can reach learners who have barriers to accessing mainstream classes such as transport/ childcare issues/ lack of former formal learning
- Improve access to mainstream ESOL provision by signposting
- Improve community cohesion in the newly arrived refugees, asylum seekers and migrants
- Promote equalities and inclusivity
Examples of the types of items that can be funded by the grant might include, but are not limited to:
- Venue hire (needs to be at a competitive hourly rate)
- ESOL teaching resources - for example books, pens, paper and whiteboards
- Student travel expenses (Bus passes or £0.41 a mile and £0.04 additional passenger)
- Volunteer travel expenses (£0.41 a mile and £0.04 for an additional passenger)
