At Warwickshire County Council, we are taking bold action to address the climate emergency. Climate change affects every aspect of life, and we are committed to leading by example in reducing carbon emissions and preparing for the impacts of a changing climate.
Sustainable Futures Strategy
In 2023, we published our Sustainable Futures Strategy (PDF, 1 MB), setting out a clear action plan (PDF, 137 KB) to tackle climate change and protect Warwickshire’s environment for future generations. This strategy guides our efforts to reduce emissions and build resilience across the county.
In February 2025, we published our first Sustainable Futures Annual Report (2024 - PDF, 1 MB) which provides an update on our progress in delivering the Sustainable Futures Strategy. This report highlights significant progress in reducing carbon emissions, improving climate resilience, and driving sustainability initiatives across the county, whilst still acknowledging the challenges that lie ahead.
Our climate goals
We are working towards two ambitious targets:
- Becoming a net zero organisation by 2030.
- Supporting Warwickshire to achieve net zero by 2050.
To reach these goals, we are delivering initiatives to reduce energy use, promote cleaner transport, and enhance green spaces while also adapting council services to cope with extreme weather events.
Building resilience
In addition to cutting emissions, we are preparing for the unavoidable impacts of climate change. Our climate change adaptation plan (PDF, 1.1 MB) ensures that council services and infrastructure are resilient to challenges such as flooding and heatwaves.
Our Climate Adaptation Report (PDF, 451 KB) was submitted to the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) as part of the imminent National Climate Adaptation Plan.
