Demonstrating compliance
Compliance with the requirements of the building regulations may be demonstrated by adopting guidance that is available in Approved Document B – Fire Safety – Volume 2 - however, there is no obligation to adopt any particular solution contained in the approved document, there may be other ways in which an equivalent level of fire safety can be achieved.
Building Bulletin 100: Design for fire safety in schools (2007) applies to:
- nursery schools
- primary and secondary schools
- academies and city technology colleges
- special schools and pupil referral units
It is the normal means of compliance with building regulations for fire safety design in new school buildings and sets out the policy on sprinklers in schools.
The NHS Health Technical Memorandum 05-02 Guidance in support of functional provisions for healthcare premises provides guidance on fire safety in the design of new healthcare buildings and extensions.
