Key health tip

Look after your sexual health: this means enjoying the sexual activity you may want, without causing yourself or anyone else any suffering, or physical or mental harm. Sexual health is not just about avoiding unwanted pregnancy or Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STIs) – but using a condom will help with both. Making positive choices about contraception and sexual health is important, not just for physical health but also for general wellbeing.

Evidence base and needs assessment information

Over the past decade, there has been an increase in the number of sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Teens are especially at risk. Many STIs are without symptoms but if left untreated can lead to complications. Safe sex and condom use can prevent STIs but early detection is vital. An estimated £63 million a year is spent in the NHS on teenage pregnancies. Teenage pregnancies are, however, falling in Warwickshire as a whole, but not at the same rate across all Districts and Boroughs.
