E-Bikes

Our commitment to public safety extends to all aspects of life, including the use of electric bikes, commonly known as e-bikes. While e-bikes offer convenience and eco-friendliness, it is crucial to prioritise fire safety to prevent any accidents or incidents.

Here, we present essential safety tips and guidance to help you enjoy the convenience of e-bikes while minimising potential fire hazards.

Batteries and Charging Safety:

  • Only use the manufacturer-approved charger and cables for your e-bike's battery.
  • Avoid charging the e-bike battery overnight or unattended, as this could pose a potential fire risk.
  • Regularly inspect the battery for any signs of overheating or damage, such as bulging or leaking. If you notice any issues, stop using the bike immediately and seek professional advice.
  • Store spare batteries in a cool, dry place away from flammable materials and follow storage guidelines provided by the manufacturer.

Inspections and Maintenance:

  • Regularly inspect your e-bike for any signs of wear or damage that could lead to fires or malfunctions.
  • Pay special attention to the electrical components, wiring, and connections. If you notice anything amiss, have it serviced by a qualified technician.
  • Keep the bike clean, ensuring there is no debris, dirt, or flammable materials accumulating near the electrical components.

Proper Storage:

  • When not in use, store your e-bike in a designated area away from potential fire hazards such as combustible materials, open flames, or direct sunlight.
  • Avoid storing the bike in extremely hot or humid environments, as this could affect the battery and increase the risk of fire.

Emergency Preparedness:

  • Familiarise yourself with the location of fire extinguishers in your home or workplace and ensure they are suitable for electrical fires.
  • If a fire does break out, do not attempt to extinguish it if it poses a risk to your safety. Evacuate the area immediately and call 999.

Education and Training:

  • Stay informed about e-bike safety guidelines and developments, ensuring you are up to date with the latest recommended practices.
  • Participate in training programs or courses provided by trusted organizations to enhance your fire safety knowledge.
