Project proposals
The A444 Corridor Improvements scheme aims to transform the strategic gateway to Nuneaton, by addressing congestion issues on the A444 growth corridor, managing the flow of traffic where several key routes converge, improving highway capacity, network resilience, journey time reliability, pedestrian/cyclist infrastructure to stimulate business activity, and realise planned employment and housing growth over a 15–20-year horizon.
The main objective of the scheme is to help facilitate significant future employment and housing growth as set out in Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council’s Draft Local Plan 2011-2031.
Phase 1 of these corridor improvements which is the A444 Coton Arches Roundabout Signalisation has already been delivered as of 2018. This website is specific to Phase 2 improvements, which includes the A444 College Street roundabout, B4112 College Street, the Bull Ring Junction, B4112 Bull Ring and Heath End Road/Greenmoor Road junction.
The Phase 2 improvements will also be delivered in two phases, with the first phase focused on the Greenmoor Road/Heath End Road/Bull Ring junction. The proposal at this junction is to introduce traffic signals to improve junction flows and reduce queuing on College Street. The scheme will also include pedestrian crossing and cycling facilities.
