Frequently asked questions
How long will the bridgeworks take?
The bridge works are anticipated to take approximately 5 months.
What will these works achieve?
It will maintain the highway structures function for both pedestrian and vehicular traffic. Increase the service life of the structure and safeguard this valuable and historic structure in line with its Grade II listed status.
Will the road be closed during the bridgeworks programme?
The road will be closed for the purpose of the works to ensure works are carried out in a safe manner to protect the members of the public, Contractors, and the structure whilst undergoing repairs. Where possible all works will be developed to minimise the length of road closure required.
Can pedestrians or cyclists still pass through a road closure?
Attempts are currently being made to allow pedestrians and cyclists access where possible in line with the construction programme. If a road closure is in place, pedestrians and cyclists will be diverted to use the adjacent footbridges and cyclists will be asked to dismount when travelling over the footbridges.
