What will these works achieve?
It will maintain the highway structure’s function for both pedestrian and vehicular traffic. Increase the strength and service life of the structure and safeguard this valuable and historic structure in line with its Scheduled Ancient Monument and Grade II listed status.
Will the road be closed during the bridgeworks programme?
The road will need to be closed for certain periods during the construction programme to ensure works are carried out in a safe manner, to protect the members of the public, Contractors, and the structure whilst undergoing repairs. Where possible, all works will be developed to minimise the length of any road closure required.
Can pedestrians or cyclists still pass through a road closure?
Attempts are currently being made to allow pedestrians and cyclists access where possible in line with the construction programme.
Is there a diversion route?
A diversion will be developed for any full road closure periods required. Please see ‘Page 3- Diversion Routes’ for further information.
