Moving into Warwickshire from overseas

To make sure that a school place is offered to your child as quickly as possible, please submit your application as soon as possible after your move.

If possible, ask their previous school to send them work to do from home until a new school place has been found for them.

If English is not your first language, please contact our Ethnic Minority and Traveller Achievement Service (EMTAS).

Overseas nationals entering the UK who wish to apply for a state-funded school need to check that they have a right of abode or the conditions of their visas otherwise permit them to access a state-funded school.

Children moving into Warwickshire under the Homes for Ukraine scheme

Families who have moved into Warwickshire due to the war in Ukraine should apply for a school place through the in-year admissions process. Please use our online parent portal to submit your school application.

Please note that there has been no change to the legislation that surrounds the process for school admissions for children who have moved into Warwickshire due to the war in Ukraine. You will not be given higher priority for a place at any of the schools you apply for, nor will the application be processed any quicker than other applicants.

We aim to send decisions on all in-year applications within 15 school days, so please wait until this period has passed before contacting us further.

Welcome to Warwickshire

Starting your child's education journey

We will ensure all children living in Warwickshire have a school place. School is one of the most important parts of your child’s life, and there is a lot to consider when deciding which school you’d like them to go to. As well as giving them a place to learn, school helps them to grow and prepare for adult life, and also provides a safe place for them to spend time with friends under the supervision of trusted adults.

All children in the UK have to be educated and this is available for free in our Warwickshire family of schools.

Children must be in education between 5 and 16-years-old. Between 16 and 18, young people must be in education or training.

Applying for a school place

We are here to help, so as soon as you arrive in Warwickshire, you should apply for a school place. Please apply online using our parent portal. It is quick and easy to use and there are also instructions to guide you through the application. You will need to create an account if you don’t already have one, provide the details of your child and then select which school(s) you would like to apply for.

You can apply for up to six schools at any time.

If a school is full, you will be notified - we call this a refusal. You can appeal this decision.

This can often be the case if you are applying for a school place outside of the usual point of entry, such as Reception or Year 7. But if we can’t provide a place at any of your preference schools, then we will provide you with a place at the nearest school with a vacancy.

You must tell us if you want to accept the place we offer you within five working days.

Starting school

Once you accept your new school place, get in touch with the school to arrange a start date and find out all the important information.

Your child must be ready to start their new school within 20 school days.
