Is a change of school the best option for your child?
Whilst a change of school can sometimes be unavoidable, it can also be disruptive to your child. For example:
- Any new school might be delivering the National Curriculum differently and your child will need to adapt accordingly
- They may not be able to continue with the same GCSE or A Level options, as the new school may use different exam boards and/or offer different subjects.
- They are likely to have to adapt to new routines and new friendship groups.
- They may have a longer or more difficult journey each day to get to school.
- The new school may not have the same extra-curricular options, including any before and after-school clubs.
So, before you make any final decision, we recommend you explore the following options with your child’s current school:
- Discuss any issues or concerns that you have with the current school with the headteacher, or a member of the governing body.
- Review any additional pastoral or learning support that you think your child needs with their classroom teacher or headteacher.
- If your child is getting into trouble at school, discuss any possible reasons and solutions for this with their teacher, Form Tutor or Head of Year.
If you have significant concerns about your child’s current school and you would like more information about on your rights, do not remove your child from the school, but contact us instead.
