In the spirit of the nation’s annual Christmas lectures, two live online ‘Show and Tell’ sessions featuring treasures from the county’s archives are just a couple of the fascinating virtual events that Heritage & Culture in Warwickshire will be sharing with residents this festive season!

On Tuesday (15th December) at 1pm, join Heritage & Culture’s ‘12 documents of Christmas’ live Show and Tell and discover more about Christmas in Warwickshire by exploring documents from the archives, written by authors from different periods of history who all had Christmas in mind!

County archivist Amanda Williams has uncovered some familiar Christmas recipes and will share some of the Warwickshire traditions of Christmas past.

Then on Tuesday 22nd December at 1pm, join Warwickshire Museum’s Jon Radley for his ‘Life and Times of a Dinosaur’ live Show and Tell, and learn all about a dinosaur that was discovered in southern Warwickshire over half a century ago!

Its remains have been recently reconstructed and paint a remarkable picture of life and death on a Jurassic island, roughly 170 million years ago.

Visit https://heritage.warwickshire.gov.uk/adultsandyoungpeopleevents on those dates to find a live link to the ‘Show and Tell’ sessions, which are completely free to watch.

There are many more digital activities, developed by staff from Heritage & Culture Warwickshire, that families and individuals can take part in online in the lead up to Christmas!

Follow their social media channels for more details of Arty Tots crafty fun for the under 5s, peek behind the scenes at the museum stores, and look out for their ‘alternative advent calendar’ and #ElkontheShelf.

Councillor Heather Timms, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Environment and Heritage & Culture, said:

“These upcoming live ‘Show and Tell’ sessions will provide a fascinating insight into Warwickshire’s history and demonstrate the range of fascinating historical records, artefacts and information that is preserved in the Warwickshire Museum and County Record Office archives.”

If you’re not able to join the live ‘Show and Tell’ sessions, why not check out the ‘Our Warwickshire’ website, www.ourwarwickshire.org.uk, which contains thousands of archive photos, stories, memories and maps documenting the history, heritage and natural environment of Warwickshire, which have been uploaded by local people, museums and archives.
