For the first time, the Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire Broadband Project is able to show on the project map some of the Alternative Network Providers (AltNets) who have, or will be, providing superfast speeds to properties in Coventry, Warwickshire and Solihull.

Before going out to tender for Contract 3, CSW Broadband asked all known providers where they have existing coverage, or are planning to provide superfast coverage, by the end of 2019. The information was provided in strict commercial confidence, so until now it has not been possible to tell people who will be providing superfast broadband in their area.

Things are changing, and some of the smaller providers (known as AltNets) have now given permission for their current and planned superfast coverage to be displayed. The information is shown on the CSW Broadband website at: www.cswbroadband.org.uk/latestmap

Properties shown with a purple star are part of the CSW Broadband Contract 2, which is due to complete at the end of 2018. Contract 3 properties are shown with a yellow star, and should be complete by the end of 2019. Those properties that are to be covered by AltNets are shown with a pink circle and, where the information can be publicised, a letter will denote the AltNet provider for each property. Unfortunately, some of the AltNets (and major providers) have chosen not to make public the areas that they intend to cover.

Cllr Kam Kaur, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Customer and Transformation for lead partner, Warwickshire County Council, said:

“Being able to display this information is great news. For the first time, people whose homes and businesses are to be covered by Altnets can see (in most cases) who should be providing the coverage and so can contact the provider directly for updates.

“CSW Broadband will continue to carry out annual monitoring of the coverage provided by AltNets and, if they are not able to meet their stated ambitions then the CSW Broadband team would have the option to de-scope parts of the area, which could then be brought into the CSW Broadband project should further funding become available”.
