Warwickshire Youth Justice Service (WYJS) was recently assessed by HM Inspectorate of Probation and has received an overall grade of ‘Good’.
The inspector’s report, published today (Friday 7 December), noted that WYJS has strong leadership and a wide range of services to support young people to avoid reoffending. The report also judged some areas of work as outstanding, particularly the supervision of court orders.
Responding to the inspection report, Warwickshire County Councillor Andy Crump, Portfolio Holder for Community Safety, said: “Keeping people safe is a key priority for us. Youth justice helps us do this and through work with our most vulnerable youngsters we are able to help them to move away from criminal activity and toward making positive contributions in our communities.
“This inspection report highlights some excellent practice in Warwickshire and we acknowledge the improvements we need to make the service even better. We will be taking forward the report recommendations to ensure that our partnerships are as strong as possible, review procedures, and develop stringent data collection, reporting and engagement processes.”
Warwickshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Philip Seccombe, added: “This good report is testament to the hard work and dedication of the service and partner agencies who work closely together to reduce offending and ensure young people are supported through the justice system. By following the recommendations in the report, the WYJS can strengthen an already impressive approach, ensuring that young people have the best possible support to deter them from crime.”
