To ensure the safety of all road users, works are currently ongoing at the Weddington Road/Old Hinckley Road junction in Nuneaton. The work involves installation of signal controlled crossing facilities.

This junction was highlighted as an area of concern by the local community and school who felt the junction was difficult for pedestrians and cyclists to cross safely. Installing the crossings should address this. It will also encourage more sustainable travel within the local community and in turn reduce congestion and improve air quality.

The county council has taken steps to minimise the disruption during these works by scheduling them so they do not conflict with other roadworks taking place in the nearby area and by restricting the works from being carried out at peak travel times. Some of the works will also be taking place overnight.

The works are expected to be complete by the end of March. Until then the county council will continue to closely monitor the area.

Cllr Jeff Clarke, portfolio holder for transport and planning said:

"We are grateful to residents and motorists for their patience during these works.

We appreciate the inconvenience such disruption causes but this work is essential to ensure all road users are safe using the junction and surrounding roads.

This is part of an ongoing programme of work around the town which will improve movement and ensure access to developing parts of Nuneaton."
