Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service is celebrating International Women’s Day with this years theme of #BalanceforBetter.

To mark the day, people from across WFRS have come together to celebrate women in the fire service, talking about how they balance their lives, roles and careers in the fire service and the benefits that brings, in a bid to help inspire the next generation of female firefighters.

In addition to the day itself, the service will also be hosting a female taster day on Sunday 10 March at Kenilworth fire station. The aim of the event is to showcase the benefits of working for WFRS and the path applicants need to take to join the service. Speaking about the women in the fire service, Cllr Andy Crump, portfolio holder for Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service, said:

“We are proud to be supporting International Women’s Day and celebrating women throughout the service.

“Our female taster day will provide an opportunity for any women interested in joining the fire service to come along and find out more about what it takes to become a firefighter with WFRS.

“The day will be supported by our female firefighters, who will be there to answer any questions the participants may have and to guide and support them through the day. The participants will be able to take part in our drills and ask any questions they may have.

“We are proud to be an inclusive service and hope that the work our staff are doing to promote and celebrate International Women’s Day helps to inspire the next generation of female firefighters to join #TeamWarks.”
