Energy consumers in Warwickshire have cause to celebrate today as Warwickshire County Council opens up registration for the fifth reverse auction which has already allowed local residents across the county to use their collective bargaining power to get a better deal on their energy bills.

The latest Switch and Save Warwickshire reverse auction, which is provided in conjunction with expert provider iChoosr, will negotiate competitive prices with energy companies on behalf of local residents. Residents will be able to register their interest in the scheme before a competitive process to find the best deal for the whole group. Those who have registered their interest, will then be given a personalised offer showing how much could be saved by switching.

Households that register for the scheme can consider their offer before deciding whether or not to switch suppliers and there is no charge to join the scheme.

This scheme has become increasingly popular in Warwickshire with households having already saved a combined amount of £518,423 on their gas and electricity bills.

Welcoming the latest reverse auction, Cllr Peter Butlin, Deputy Leader of Warwickshire County Council and Portfolio Holder for Finance and Property, said:

“This is fantastic news for residents in Warwickshire and demonstrates our ongoing commitment to work with partners and other organisations to improve the quality of life for all, particularly some of our more vulnerable residents who worry about the costs of heating their homes.

“Some residents will be paying too much, particularly if they haven’t switched supplier for a while, so I’d encourage everyone to sign up and see what offer they receive. Last time, a large percentage of those who registered were eligible for an average saving of £177 on their bills. How much could you save? Don’t delay, sign up today”

Mary, a resident from Nuneaton who signed up to save with the scheme, told us:

“I signed up to the first Warwickshire Switch and Save auction and the winning supplier offered 100% renewable energy. I was able to choose wind energy and couldn’t be more pleased with the supplier I’ve got!”

The amount of money that can be saved will vary depending on individual factors such as the current tariff, payment method, consumption and the winning bid. There is no guarantee that an offer will be the cheapest but the model aims to ensure the majority of participants are offered lower annual energy bills than they are on currently paying or are available at the time of the offer.

Residents who want to take part in this fantastic initiative should visit: www.warwickshire.gov.uk/switchandsave they will need to have their latest energy bill handy as they will need the details during the registration process. Registration is open from today, Tuesday 13 August 2019, with individual offers posted or emailed to residents from Monday 21 October 2019.
