Since April 2013 we have been responsible for the delivery of public health services previously run by the NHS. Public health leads on improving and protecting the health of the local population, and commissions key services from a number of organisations. The services include:
- support for drug and alcohol abuse
- obesity
- sexual health
- improve mental health and wellbeing
There is an obligation on planning authorities to work with public health leaders to ensure that decisions are made to improve the health and wellbeing of communities.
Operating these services offer opportunities to link up with other duties we operate, particularly those areas which directly or indirectly affect health for example:
- social care
- transport
- libraries
We are required to assure that relevant organisations have appropriate plans in place to protect the health of the population. This includes appropriate plans in place to protect the health of the population (for example, from infectious diseases). The public health team also works closely with NHS colleagues particularly in clinical commissioning groups to ensure that local health services closely match the health needs of local people and to provide advice to them.
There may be circumstances when an Section 106 (s106) agreement will be required to secure required planning obligations.
Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) are responsible for the delivery of primary care services, including general practice, across Warwickshire. Please contact the CCGs for contribution enquiries related to primary care.
