What it's about
With the new micro park, Butterstones offered a lovely resting spot for townsfolk to experience the Sounds of the Town, thoughts moved to how these sounds could be presented in a digital format.
St Andrews Church was asked to work with local musicians to come up with a soundscape for the town which would bring together past and present, uniting things about Rugby that are well known with some things that have been concealed over time:
How the artists describe it
Local Rugby based musicians Joanna Litten and James Grady recorded and produced Sounds of the Town using recordings from their hometown, set to a rhythmic narrative.
This cut includes local businesses, places of workshop, theatre, music, travel, place, industry, and draws on real-life experiences audible in the town. It is a celebration of place, just as it is now and into the future, as the town evolves. Listen out for the market and local children and experience the sounds of daily life in this town.
The artists feel that Rugby punches well above its weight culturally. The explain how they carried out the project in this short video:
And that is Rugby.
