Our aim is to allocate funding for safety camera operations to reduce road casualties. The council operates in partnership with Warwickshire Police who support this approach. The council has asked the police to focus operations on the sites with the worst casualty history. The council’s funding is supplemented by surplus from speed awareness workshops in line with the approach approved by the Road Safety Minister and ACPO.
Fixed cameras
The times when particular cameras are actively enforcing are deliberately irregular. This is to provide the greatest possible deterrent to speeding as drivers will not know whether a particular camera is actively enforcing at a given time. The sum total of the times each fixed camera actively enforces over a period depends on the casualty history of the site.
Mobile cameras
The police also enforce using mobile cameras on similar principles. The times and places at which the police enforce using mobile cameras are deliberately irregular to provide the maximum deterrent to speeding, and the sum total of the times the police enforce with mobile cameras at a particular site depends on the casualty history of the site.
