Identifying need

Young people can present with needs in some or all areas of learning (literacy, numeracy, retention attention and listening,  etc) and can be identified, over time, in a number of ways , for example, teacher assessment, curriculum assessment and attainment.

Indicators of needs which may require additional support through the assess, plan, do, review cycle include:

  • Whole school tracking information shows that learning is below age-related below expectations and there is evidence of an increasing gap between the young person and their peers
  • There is evidence that teachers have made reasonable adjustments through quality first teaching to include and meet the needs of the young person within the classroom.
  • There is evidence that the leadership team are fulfilling their whole school responsibilities in respect of cognition and learning needs.
