A4071 Rugby Western Relief Road
We were commissioned by WCC Design Services to produce landscape proposals for the A4071, a new relief road around the western side of the town of Rugby. The scheme included tree and shrub planting, hedgerows, wildflower seeding and aquatic planting in balancing ponds. We worked closely with ecologists to design a dedicated ecological mitigation area, incorporating five new ponds for amphibians, native scrub, species-rich meadow and a targeted scheme to support the locally rare Dingy Skipper butterfly as well as other terrestrial invertebrates. All tree, shrub and hedgerow plants are native species characteristic of the Dunsmore area. The landscape scheme was designed to screen the road and help it blend into its surroundings, as well as to provide an attractive route for road users and to enhance biodiversity.
