Ellie the Fire Dog video series
Video 1 - A special day for Ellie
Activity 1
Can you think of items that could start a fire?
Ellie has thought of some. Did you think of the same?
Matches, lighters, candles, cigarettes and aerosols are some of the items that Ellie thought of.
If you see any of these items, you should tell an adult so they can put them out of reach.
We must never play with any of these items. They are dangerous.
Can you design your own fire safety poster to warn people not to play with items that could start a fire?
You can send a photo of your poster to cfs@warwickshire.gov.uk along with your name and age for us to share on our social media to show everyone how to keep safe.
Video 2 - A sticky door
Activity 2
Do you know your address? It’s important to learn where you live and practice saying it. Then you will know where to tell someone to go if you have an emergency.
In the story, Tom phoned a number to reach the emergency services. Can you remember what it was?
The number was 999. This is the number to phone if you find yourself in an emergency situation.
Can you draw the numbers 999 and colour them in brightly for us to see?
You can send a photo of your drawing to cfs@warwickshire.gov.uk along with your name and age for us to share on our social media to show everyone how to keep safe.
Video 3 - Grace and Tom and the sunny day
Activity 3
What would you do if you found matches or a lighter? The correct thing to do is to tell an adult and they can put them somewhere safe and out of reach.
Can you practice saying a rhyme?
Matches and lighters never touch,
They can hurt you very much.
Try saying it over and over and maybe you can teach your family members how it goes?
Why don’t you write down the words to the rhyme in big, bright letters for us here at Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service to see?
You can send a photo of your drawing to cfs@warwickshire.gov.uk along with your name and age for us to share on our social media to show everyone how to keep safe.
Video 4 - Ellie learns a new trick
Activity 4
Do you remember what new trick Ellie learnt? That’s right, Ellie learnt to stop, drop and roll.
If our clothes ever catch fire, the safest way to put it out is to stop, drop and roll. This will put the fire out and keep us safe.
Why don’t you give it a go? Find a space and stop, drop and roll. You can even teach others how to do it, to help your friends and family to keep safe.
Can you design a poster or draw a picture of Ellie doing stop, drop and roll like this one?
You can send a photo of your poster to cfs@warwickshire.gov.uk along with your name and age for us to share on our social media to show everyone how to keep safe.
Video 5 - Grace disappears
Activity 5
In the story, Grace hid from the bonfire. We must never hide from fire. We should make sure we are at a safe distance and tell an adult.
Fire can easily spread so hiding will not protect us. What do you think Grace should have done instead?
Grace should not have hidden from the bonfire and she should have answered when everyone was calling her, so that they knew she was safe.
If you ever see a fire, you can call out the words ‘Fire! Fire! Fire!’ This will let everyone know there is danger.
Can you draw a picture of a bonfire or write the word ‘fire’ and colour it in? You can add safety messages to your picture to let everyone know how to keep safe.
You can send a photo of your poster to cfs@warwickshire.gov.uk along with your name and age for us to share on our social media to show everyone how to keep safe.
Video 6 - What an awful noise!
Activity 6
Do you have a smoke alarm in your home? Smoke alarms make a really loud noise when they smell smoke. This lets us know there is a fire and warns us to get out.
It is important to test that our smoke alarms are working by pressing the test button once a week.
With an adult to help, can you test your smoke alarms are working? You will hear a loud beeping noise to let you know they are working.
Why don’t you try drawing a smoke alarm? You can even write safety messages around it.
You can send a photo of your drawing to cfs@warwickshire.gov.uk along with your name and age for us to share on our social media to show everyone how to keep safe.
