Candles

Candle safety tips.- don't use candles in tents, be careful with them around fabric

Candles pose a fire hazard if not handled with care.

  • Never leave candles unattended.
    • Make sure they are extinguished before leaving a room or going to sleep.
    • Unattended candles significantly increase the risk of fire.
  • Ensure that candles are placed on flat and stable surfaces to prevent accidental tip-overs.
    • Place candles in sturdy holders that can collect wax and prevent tipping over.
  • If you have children or pets, make sure candles are placed in secure areas out of their reach.
    • Consider using candle holders that provide barriers to prevent accidental contact with the flame.
  • Keep candles at least one foot away from curtains, tablecloths, bedding, or any other flammable materials.
    • Be mindful of decorations, plants, paper, or anything else that could come into contact with the flame.
  • Avoid blowing out candles, as this can cause sparks or hot wax to spray.
    • Instead, use a candle snuffer or a designated tool to extinguish them gently.
  • Never move a lit candle from one location to another.
    • The flame can easily ignite nearby objects, and hot wax may spill, resulting in burns or fires.
  • Avoid placing candles near open windows, air vents, fans, or drafts.
    • Air currents can cause curtains or other materials to blow into the flame and lead to a fire.
  • Consider using flameless candles or LED-powered options for a safer alternative.
    • These provide a similar ambiance without the risk of an open flame.
