The Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) seeks to analyse current and future wellbeing needs of the local population to inform the commissioning of health, wellbeing, and social care services. The JSNA aims to establish a shared, evidence-based consensus on the key local priorities across health and social care by bringing together key partners and stakeholders from across the system to give interpretation, provide insight, and ultimately inform decision making.

Since 2013 producing JSNAs have been a statutory responsibility of each local authorities Health and Wellbeing Board. The first programme of work, which lasted until 2018, undertook thematic needs assessments – needs assessments which relate to a particular subject. Between 2017 and 2020 this changed to a place-based approach by splitting Warwickshire into 22 geographies which were used to profile needs and design services. The Monitoring Health Inequalities dashboard is a legacy of this piece of work, and provides up to date data for Warwickshire, district and boroughs, and the 22 JSNA geographies. Following the completion of the place-based programme in 2020 a thematic approach was taken again.
