Project updates
Work progress update – October 2021
The majority (more than 95%) of the repair and restoration works to the Bretford Bridge has been completed. Very minor masonry repair works are outstanding. The works couldn’t be done due to the timing constraints on the main salmonid river and the high-water levels. The minor outstanding works will be carried out next spring/summer. These works will not require road closure and/or traffic management.
Project update – August 2021
The Contractor is preparing to install scaffold on both side of the bridge to undertake masonry repair works to the top section of the bridge’s elevations. A full bridge closure is required to install the temporary structure. Therefore, the bridge will be closed from Monday 9 August 2021 for one week. A further one-week road closure will be required to remove the scaffolding and it has been provisionally programmed for the week commencing 13 September 2021.
The previously signed diversion route will be utilised and a safe pedestrian route will be provided for the duration of the road closure.
Project update - July 2021
Masonry repair works to the inside face (carriageway side) of bridge parapet walls and surfacing works have now been completed and Bretford Bridge was reopened to the traffic on Monday 12 July 2021.
The repair works to the lower part of the outer elevations and underside of the structure is ongoing.
The masonry repair works to the top part of the outer elevations will take place using scaffoldings. Therefore, a further two bridge closures are required in the next following weeks, in order to install and remove the scaffoldings. The duration of each bridge closure will be for one week and the date of closures will be confirmed in due course.
Project update - May 2021
Masonry repair works and carriageway surfacing work is due to start on Monday 24th May 2021. Due to the nature of the works and the width of the bridge, a full road closure is required to repair and restore the parapet walls and resurface the carriageway. Therefore, the bridge will be closed from Monday 24th May for 6 weeks. A safe pedestrian route will be provided for the duration of the construction works. The repair works to the outer elevations and underside of the structure will take place using a temporary working platform and pontoon and will not require road closure and/or traffic management. The overall scheme will be completed in August 2021.
Project update – March 2021
The site works have been delayed slightly pending third party stakeholder consent applications. The site work is now anticipated to be reprogrammed for late May with the road closure from 24th May. These dates will be confirmed once the statutory consents have been granted and the contractor’s programme updated. The diversion route has been designed and please see the plan view below for the diversion route details.
