Staff knowledge and understanding
The senior leadership team should ensure that:
- Staff skills are regularly audited and there is a plan for on-going Continuing Professional Development in relation to the needs of young people
- There are systems in place to disseminate training to the wider school staff as appropriate
- School staff understand how a young person with physical and/or medical needs may have additional needs and require support in other areas
Governing Boards and Head Teachers are aware of:
- Their statutory responsibilities under the Equality Act 2010
- Their health and safety responsibilities for staff undertaking the moving and handling of learners with physical disabilities
The school encourages and supports a team approach to support physical and/or medical needs. In particular:
- Staff are given encouragement and have opportunities to discuss concerns, problem solve and provide support to each other
- There are processes in place in school for sharing information with all relevant staff regarding the young person’s physical and/or medical needs, including supply staff, for example, sharing one page profiles
- There are planned opportunities for key staff to share good practice with staff from other schools. Senior staff actively promote and facilitate these networking and mentoring opportunities
- Staff mental health needs are monitored and supported
- School systems are flexible enough to support the individual needs of all children/young people on roll at the school including those educated off-site
All staff are aware of:
