Producing areas
Information on areas potentially able to supply the aggregates we need for development and analyse the archaeology of those areas.
This project identified areas potentially able to supply the aggregates we need for development and analyse the archaeology of those areas.
The information gathered in the project was then used to provide a sound dataset for management and decision-making. It will also be used to guide future archaeological research as well as in the development of a new minerals development framework for the county.
Study Area
The project covered the present day county of Warwickshire and Solihull MBC. Solihull was part of historic Warwickshire, and the Archaeology Service in Warwickshire has provided an archaeological planning advice and HER service for the borough since 2000.
This project focused on those areas that contain (or have in the past contained) geologies exploited for aggregates.
Method
There were six principal stages to this project:
- defining the extent of all geological deposits that might potentially produce aggregates
- defining individual study areas on the basis of the geology and the topography of the county
- undertaking an Archaeological Resource Assessment
- identifying future research priorities
- identifying management prescriptions
- the dissemination of the project outcomes
