The archaeological resource assessment
The Resource Assessment forms the core of the project and consists of a summary of our current understanding of the archaeology and the identification of gaps in our knowledge. This stage of the project is currently being completed.
Initial results
An initial examination of the data held in Warwickshire and Solihull Historic Environment Records reveals that there are c.4200 archaeological records to be examined (38% of the total).
Of these:
- c.960 records are from the prehistoric or Romano-British periods;
- c.2700 records are from the post-Romano-British period or later (the remainder are of uncertain date).
Periods
The Resource Assessment will go on to examine the following periods in detail:
- Palaeolithic and Mesolithic
- early prehistory (Neolithic and earlier Bronze Age
- later prehistory (late Bronze Age and Iron Age)
- Romano-British
- post-Romano-British and early medieval
- medieval
- post-medieval
- imperial and modern
Aerial photographic information will also be used including the plotting of selected areas as part of the National Mapping Programme (NMP) run by English Heritage.
