Children of compulsory school age have a legal right to receive suitable education which should be full time.
In exceptional circumstances there may be a need for a temporary part time timetable to meet a pupil's individual needs, for example: where a medical condition prevents a pupil from attending full time education and a part time timetable is considered as part of a re-integration package.
All schools must notify Warwickshire County Council if a pupil is placed onto a part-time timetable.
What should happen if a school has suggested a part-time timetable?
- You can read the guidance below which sets out expectations for schools
- There should be a discussion with the school why they think it is appropriate, what they hope to achieve, how many hours the pupil will be in school, the date it will be reviewed and any other considerations (eg: special educational needs) prior to all parties (parents/carers and school) agreeing to the part time timetable.
- Any part time timetable must be reviewed after 6 to 8 weeks with a focus on what has been achieved.
