What is Evidence Based Practice?
This guidance draws on educational and psychological research in order to inform best practice, and address needs as early as possible. For example, refer to the EEF Teaching and Learning Toolkit, Evidence4Impact and John Hattie's Visible Learning research for more information about effective evidence-based strategies, approaches and interventions. Evidence based provision should be implemented and evaluated as part of a cycle of assess, plan, do, review (PDF, 65 KB).
Practice based evidence considers the effectiveness of strategies, approaches and interventions for an individual child by considering the response of individuals to the implementation of provision. Again, this is supported by the cycle of assess, plan, do, review. Where a young person is not making progress in response to intervention, doing more of the same is unlikely to make a difference for the young person and changes in the frequency, intensity or nature of the intervention should be made. It is recommended that any modification should be done in consultation with specialist support services .
