Assessment Identification and Monitoring
Teachers to consider the following:
- Has recent assessment been used to gain a better understanding of an individual young person’s speech and language skills and to identify whether it is a barrier to their learning in the classroom? Screening tools for young people in Reception and key stage 1-3 are available from South Warwickshire Foundation Trust
- Have engagement in lessons and motivation of their class groups been monitored?
- Have the social engagement and behaviour of their class groups been monitored, and appropriate interventions planned that can be delivered within class through the curriculum?
- Do all young people have the opportunity to communicate with an adult? It may be necessary to adjusting grouping to facilitate this
- What are the targets/outcomes that young people with speech and language needs in their class are working towards?
