How can VI be supported through further cycles of assess, plan, do, review?
Assess
The class/subject teacher will monitor the young person’s progress and their visual access to the curriculum on an on-going basis.
Functional vision assessments are completed by the Qualified Teacher for young people with Visual Impairment (QTVI) who will make recommendations to enable the pupil to have visual access to the curriculum and environment
As all young people are different, this assessment is crucial to identify specific needs in order to ensure that the intervention and support is effective
All visual impairments must be treated on an individual basis as young people use their residual vision differently
Young people’s strengths and weaknesses will be analysed using enlarged curriculum-related assessment, criterion related assessment and may be supplemented by standardised tests and / or diagnostic tests. These will need to be in the pupil’s print size
The views of the young person should be central to the assessment in order to inform planning
