Warwickshire County Council has a 3-year partnership agreement with Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust (CWPT), to provide integrated community mental health and social care services.
The agreement allows for an integrated and timely approach to managing complex cases where Care Act needs are evident alongside a person’s mental health needs. Health and social care staff work together to assess the care needs and develop interventions based on the individual needs and strengths of the person.
Social workers and social care practitioners also work across North and South Warwickshire within Mental Health Access Hubs / Home Treatment Teams, Mental Health & Wellbeing Teams, Early Intervention Teams & Recovery Teams, and Dementia Teams.
Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) Team
For DoLS purposes, Warwickshire County Council is identified as the ‘Supervisory Body’ and registered care homes or hospital wards are identified as the ‘Managing Authority’. They manage the care that is being delivered and WCC supervises that care if it equates to a deprivation of liberty.
If Managing Authorities are depriving a person of their liberty, they must by law seek authorisation from the relevant Supervisory Body to authorise this. They complete a referral form and send this to the WCC DoLS team to initiate the assessment process. Referrals can come from any establishment across the country. We undertake the assessment, following which the restriction will either be agreed if it is appropriate and proportionate, or refused.
