Shift patterns
Working in Fire Control involves following specific shift patterns designed to ensure round-the-clock coverage and effective response to emergency incidents. The nature of the role demands flexibility and readiness to work during varying hours, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
Our Fire Control Firefighters are assigned to a Watch (Red/White/Blue/Green) and work rotating shifts, which includes the following patterns:
- 2 Day shifts (0700 – 1900 hours)
- 2 Night shifts (1900 - 0700 hours)
- 4 Rota days
During busy periods or unforeseen circumstances, Fire Control Firefighters may be required to work additional hours or be placed on standby for on-call duties to provide immediate support in case of heightened activity or major incidents.
Rest Periods and Breaks
Shift patterns are structured to include appropriate rest periods and breaks to manage fatigue and maintain alertness during extended hours of service. Compliance with regulations and guidelines regarding working hours and rest periods is strictly enforced to safeguard employee well-being.
The dedication and commitment of Fire Control Firefighters in adhering to shift patterns are crucial for ensuring the seamless operation of our emergency response service and providing essential support to the public during critical situations.
