Construction schemes

The Transforming Nuneaton ring road highway programme consists of a series of highways and sustainable transport improvement schemes.

It includes:

  • A new cycleway through Abbey Gardens and improvements to the junction between Central Avenue and Corporation Street. This will provide improved cycle provision in this area of the town, linking the ring road to the northwest of Nuneaton. In November 2023 the decision was taken for the Abbey Green Cycleway scheme not to be delivered at this time and held in abeyance until such a time a whole corridor link can be provided from the north-west of the town centre.
  • New and modified white lining to the Coton Road roundabout to help improve traffic flow through this junction.
  • The provision of a fourth arm to an existing three arm signalised junction at Wheat Street to unlock development along Wheat Street West, namely the Vicarage Street development site. It will also provide improvements to cyclist and pedestrian facilities into the town centre.
  • Upgrades to the Corporation Street roundabout junction providing a significant reduction in queues on Corporation Street and in the Midland Road/Corporation Street Air Quality Management Area. Cyclist and pedestrian facilities will also be improved at this junction.
  • Removal of the existing one-way gyratory system and replacement with a four arm roundabout in the Leicester Road/Back Street/Bond Street/Regent Street area. Approximately 420 metres of one way system will be removed. New toucan crossings will be installed on Leicester Road (east) arm, Vicarage Street (south) and the A444 (west) approach. This development, together with the existing alignment of Regent Street, will provide vastly improved cyclist and pedestrian facilities.
