Leicester Road Gyratory
The existing A444 (Vicarage Street) / Leicester Road / Bond Street / Back Street / Regent Street gyratory, located to the northeast of the town centre, is a one-way signal controlled gyratory.
Proposed upgrades to the area will include a roundabout and ancillary works to surrounding roads to accommodate current vehicle traffic and future growth.
The proposed works will include a new bus gate at the junction of the A444 (Back Street) and Bond Street.
Other vehicles can access the train station and Bond Street from the new roundabout.
The scheme will also improve provision for active travel in the area. There will be cycle routes around the periphery of the proposed roundabout including formal crossing points for pedestrians and cyclists.
Bond Street will become one way southbound for vehicles, except for buses, maintaining access to existing businesses and dwellings.
This scheme is subject to planning permission, so further plans will be made public as part of this process.
