Update 19 March 2025

Coton Road Improvements - Site Works are planned to commence on 24-March-2025 to 26-March-2025, subject to favourable weather conditions. The layout of Coton Road roundabout to introduce of spiral road markings will help improve traffic flow around the roundabout and access to/from the ring road. Balfour Beatty Living Places (BBLP) have been commissioned to undertake the works which, due to the extent of works required across the roundabout, will need to be carried out using 2 night-time closures but only when the road is dry and salt free. 10 days before the start of the works there will be advance warning signs informing motorists of the road closures, and Nuneaton and Bedworth Council Environmental Noise Team has been informed of the planned works. BBLP will undertake all necessary steps to minimise disruption.

Leicester Road Gyratory - This scheme is planned to replace the current Leicester Road gyratory with a new signalised roundabout to improve traffic flow around Nuneaton ring road.

Due to the location of the scheme and the number of stakeholders involved, the commencement of site works will be determined at the detail design stage subject to planning approval and acquisition of certain land.

The planning application for the scheme was submitted at the end of October 2024 and plans are now available for public review. It is envisaged that planning approval will be received by late summer/autumn 2025, when detail design of the scheme is intended to commence.

Wheat Street Junction - The scheme involves changing the existing 3-legged Wheat Street junction with Vicarage Street to a new 4-legged layout and will provide easier access to Nuneaton’s ring road from Bond Gate to ease traffic congestion in the town centre.

Critical land acquisitions have been agreed and the detail design is progressing well. It is intended put the construction works up for tender in early 2025 with the intention to commence construction in Summer 2025.

The scrub land on the north side of Wheat Street and vegetation on the east side Justice Walk Car Park was cleared in November 2024 following completion of ecological surveys.
