Coton Road improvements - Balfour Beatty Living Places (BBLP) are in negotiations with WCC Network Management to book road space for the planned works. The works, which involve the introduction of spiral road markings to the Coton Road roundabout to improve traffic flow, are likely to be undertaken in early 2025.
Leicester Road gyratory - This scheme is planned to replace the existing Leicester Road gyratory with a new signalised roundabout to improve traffic flow along Nuneaton’s ring road. The planning application for the scheme was submitted at the end of October 2024 and the plans are now available for public review. Due to the location of the scheme and the number of stakeholders involved, the commencement of site works will be determined at the detail design stage subject to planning approval and acquisition of certain land.

Wheat Street junction - The scheme involves changing the existing three-legged Wheat Street junction with Vicarage Street to a new four-legged layout and will provide easier access to Nuneaton’s ring road from Bond Gate to ease traffic congestion in the town centre. Critical land acquisitions have been agreed and the detailed design is progressing well. It is intended put the construction works up for tender in early 2025 with the intention to commence construction in summer 2025. The scrub land on the north side of Wheat Street and vegetation on the east side Justice Walk Car Park was cleared in November following completion of ecological surveys.

The works are planned to be undertake by WCC’s maintenance contractor during the current financial year.

WCC Network Management and the contractor are currently reviewing the planned programme of works to ascertain when road space for the works can be secured.
Wheat Street Junction – The design which involves changing the existing 3 legged Wheat Street junction with Vicarage Street to a 4 legged is progressing in accordance with the programme. The scheme is required to provide easier access to the ring road from Bondgate to ease town centre traffic congestion. The scrub land on the north side of Wheat Street at the existing Vicarage Street junction will be cleared following the bird nesting season ecological surveys of the site have been undertaken to ensure there are no habitats. The main site works is planned for Summer 2025.

Archaeological trial trenching in the Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council car parks off Regent Street (by the Empire Gym) have been completed and the car parks reopened.
