Coton Road Improvements – The scheme involves the introduction of spiral road markings to the Coton Road roundabout to improve traffic flow. Currently WCC maintenance contractor is in negotiations with WCC Network Management to ascertain when road space for the planned works will be available.

The works are planned to be undertake by WCC’s maintenance contractor during the current financial year.

Leicester Road Gyratory – The planning application for the scheme design to replace the existing gyratory with a new signalised roundabout was submitted at the end of October 2024 and is currently being reviewed by WCC Planning officers for completeness and accuracy.

Due to the location of the scheme and the number of stakeholders involved, the commencement of site works will be determined at the commencement of the detail design phase, subject to planning approval and acquisition of certain lands.

Wheat Street Junction – The scheme is required to provide easier access to the ring road from Bondgate to ease town centre traffic congestion. The design is progressing well and involves changing the existing 3-legged Wheat Street junction with Vicarage Street to a new 4-legged layout. It is planned the design will be completed in early 2025 and the main site works commenced in Summer 2025. In advance of the main works, the scrub land on the north side of Wheat Street at its existing junction with Vicarage Street and vegetation on the east side Justice Walk Car Park will be cleared in November and following completion of seasonal ecological surveys to ensure no existing habitats are affected.

The contractor is currently in negotiations with WCC Network Management and reviewing to ascertain when road space for the planned programme of works will be available.

The design is progressing in accordance with the programme and involves changing the existing 3-legged Wheat Street junction with Vicarage Street to a new 4-legged layout. In advance of the main works, the scrub land on the north side of Wheat Street at the existing Vicarage Street junction will be cleared over winter and following seasonal ecological surveys to ensure no existing habitats are affected.

WCC Network Management and the contractor are currently reviewing the planned programme of works to ascertain when road space for the works can be secured.

Wheat Street Junction – The design which involves changing the existing 3 legged Wheat Street junction with Vicarage Street to a 4 legged is progressing in accordance with the programme. The scheme is required to provide easier access to the ring road from Bondgate to ease town centre traffic congestion. The scrub land on the north side of Wheat Street at the existing Vicarage Street junction will be cleared following the bird nesting season ecological surveys of the site have been undertaken to ensure there are no habitats. The main site works is planned for Summer 2025.

Archaeological trial trenching in the Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council car parks off Regent Street (by the Empire Gym) have been completed and the car parks reopened.
