Areas for staff Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
Teachers to consider their knowledge in relation to the following, to identify areas for continuing professional development:
Teachers:
- Are aware of the physical and/or medical needs of young people in their classes
- Have knowledge about the physical and medical conditions of young people in their classes and the implications on their learning
- Feel confident in meeting the physical and medical needs of the young people in their class.
- Are familiar with the Individual Healthcare plans of the young people they teach and know what to do if there is a concern
- Have adapted the classroom so that the physical layout and is not a barrier to learning
- Give young people alternative strategies to record when required
- Use Think Time to enable flexible and varied questioning strategies to learners
- Can modify their responses to individual children on the basis of need
- Share planning with support staff allowing sufficient time for support staff to prepare any resources in advance
- Work as part of a team with any teaching assistants they have in their classroom
- Have access to CPD opportunities and other support to meet physical and medical needs
- Are able to discuss physical and medical concerns with the SENCo and/or the senior leadership team when required.
