Areas for staff Continuing Professional Development (CPD) 

Teachers to consider their knowledge in relation to the following, to identify areas for continuing professional development:

Teachers:

  •  Are aware of the  physical and/or medical needs of young people in their classes   
  •  Have knowledge about the  physical and medical conditions of young people in their classes and the implications on their learning   
  • Feel confident in meeting the  physical and medical needs of the young people in their class.   
  •  Are familiar with the Individual Healthcare plans of the young people they teach and know what to do if there is a concern   
  •  Have adapted the classroom so that the physical layout and  is not a barrier to learning  
  • Give young people alternative strategies to record when required   
  •  Use Think Time to enable flexible and varied questioning strategies to learners  
  •  Can modify their responses to individual children on the basis of need  
  •  Share planning with support staff allowing sufficient time for support staff to prepare any resources in advance   
  •  Work as part of a team with any teaching assistants they have in their classroom   
  •  Have access to CPD opportunities and other support to meet  physical and medical needs   
  •  Are able to discuss  physical and medical concerns with the SENCo and/or the senior leadership team when required.
