After you submit your application
After you have sent your completed application, it will go through several processes. At each stage the application could be rejected or moved on to the next process. The following information aims to give an overview of the stages within the application process and the potential outcomes.
Stage 1
The application that has been received will be checked to ensure that all required documents are received, and that the application form has been fully completed. If there are any omissions or errors, we will communicate with applicant to resolve these. Once all is in order, the application moves on to the next stage.
Stage 2
We review the application form, supporting documents, such as risk assessments, and required plans and photographs against project criteria, as a desktop exercise. Applicants may be contacted at this stage if any further details are required to complete the desktop exercise.
If the during the desktop exercise the criteria are not met, we will contact the applicant to advise approval cannot be granted and on what grounds.
If the desktop exercise criteria are met, the application will move on to stage 3.
Stage 3
An onsite assessment visit is arranged with the applicant and us. During the onsite assessment we review the proposals with applicant, and, where applicable, those they applied on behalf of on site.
If following the onsite assessment, the criteria for approval of a wildflower verge are not met, we will advise the applicant that approval cannot be granted and on what grounds.
If following the onsite assessment, the criteria for approval of a wildflower verge are met, we will grant approval by completing the relevant section on the application form, including any specific conditions and the application moves on to Stage 4, the post-approval stage.
Stage 4 - post approval stage
Once the application has been approved following the onsite assessment, we will:
- Confirm approval to applicant via email and send a consent form which must then be returned to us signed by the applicant before any works can commence.
- Email the site plan to the relevant district or borough council to ensure the site is removed from their mowing schedule (where applicable).
- Add the site on to our highways system as an approved wildflower verge.
