Curriculum Delivery
Teachers to consider the following:
- Do tasks and lessons have a visible and predictable structure, with explicitly described objectives, which are returned to at the end of the lesson?
- Is the communication style adjusted by speaking clearly, slowly and calmly?
- Is verbal communication paired with visual prompts?
- Is there enough time for young people to respond to instructions and requests?
- Are transitions prepared well in advance using a range of means?
- Is task understanding regularly checked?
- Are opportunities provided for young people with social communication needs to enable them to participate throughout the lesson?
- Are opportunities created for young people with social communication needs to practise and use their knowledge and skills across situations and people?
- Is ICT used to enhance learning experiences?
- Could ICT as a tool for communication be explored?
