Project Update – January 2025
The repair and restoration work to the Castle Bridge’s stonework on the west elevation is now substantially complete and the scaffolding is scheduled to be taken down from the west elevation by the end of the week commencing 27 January 2025.
When the scaffolding is taken down from the west elevation, and the contractor’s welfare and storage facilities have been relocated, the western footpath will be reopened and the temporary pedestrian crossing traffic signals will be removed from site in the Week Commencing 3 February.
Additionally, an access scaffold has recently been installed on the northeast corner of the structure to provide safe access to begin the masonry repair work to the bridge’s east elevation.
Once the repair work on the northeast section of the bridge is completed, the scaffolding will be extended to cover the full extent of the east elevation and span over the River Avon, to provide access to the remaining areas for repair. This will require the closure of the eastern footpath for the scaffold support structure and the reinstatement of the temporary crossing traffic signals to divert pedestrians to the other footway. Nighttime lane closures are being utilised for the scaffold installation, and the repair works have been planned to avoid daytime traffic lane closures to avoid disruption.
