Radford Road walking and cycling connections, Leamington Spa
We are working with Sustrans and the Canal and River Trust to improve walking and cycling connections on the Radford Road in Leamington Spa.
Radford Road already forms part of the longer distance National Cycle Network Route 41 (Stratford upon Avon - Warwick - Leamington Spa - Rugby) and is a key connection between Newbold Comyn and the Grand Union Canal.
As part of the National Cycle Network Activation Programme and Paths for Everyone Review, Sustrans allocated funding for Warwickshire County Council (WCC) and the Canal and River Trust to improve access and provide safer connections on Radford Road.

- Tree planting.
- Measures to prevent parking on the footway/cycle track.
Consultation
Between 4 August 2023 and 8 September 2023, local residents and stakeholders were invited to provide feedback on the proposed Toucan crossing. Objections and representations were noted and considered as part of the scheme approval by Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Transport and Planning on 13 October 2023.

Other projects
The Radford Road connections are part of a wider programme to improve and extend the networks of walking and cycling routes in and around Warwickshire’s towns. The aim is to create a safe and attractive environment for walking, wheeling and cycling, so that they become the natural choices for shorter journeys and outdoor recreation in Warwickshire. Detailed proposals and scheme priorities are set out in the draft Warwickshire Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan.
Making it easier for people to walk and cycle for short local journeys will also help to tackle congestion, improve air quality, reduce carbon emissions, and support an increase in physical activity.
